Both natural and engineered stone products come in thicknesses of either 2 or 3 centimeter material. The 3 cm (1 1/4") material sits in a solid sheet on top of your cabinetry, while the 2 cm (3/4") material is typically laminated with a 1 3/4" x 3/4" piece to form a total edge profile of 1 1/2" as seen below. The laminated 1 3/4" x 1 1/2" piece sits atop your cabinetry. A plywood substrate is then placed underneath the remainder of the 2cm sheet. This substrate is not visible with the industry standard 1 1/2" overhang. Compound edges, for example an ogee bullnose, are also available.
